Scrimmage Cares Has Banner Year Of Philanthropic Support In 2019, And Is Set To Continue In 2020
Scrimmage Cares, the philanthropic arm of Scrimmage, supported several noteworthy organizations throughout 2019 and it is set to continue its support in 2020.
Since its Fall 2015 launch, the Scrimmage Cares program has steadily evolved and grown each year with new organizations and new initiatives brought into the mix. 2019 proved to be particularly significant with increased team ownership and client participation, as well.
“The growth of the Scrimmage Cares program truly resonates with what our company is and who our people are,” notes Sharon Steeley, VP, Marketing and Communications for Scrimmage. "I am always so impressed with the profound and compassionate participation of our team with each and every initiative."
In 2016, three non-profit partners were tapped to be supported through various Scrimmage Cares initiatives and sponsorships that have continued to this day. They include: Spare Key, a Minnesota-based non-profit providing financial housing assistance to families with a critically ill, or seriously injured child; and Hopeworks ’n Camden, a non-profit supporting youth in Camden, New Jersey to break the cycle of violence and poverty through education, technology and on-the-job experience; at The Annual LTEN Conference [Life Sciences Trainers and Educators Network], a local charity is tapped for a team-building event among attendees with various activities specifically targeted for the charity from making teddy bears to creating care packages, and more.
In 2019, three additional organizations were brought into the Scrimmage Cares family.
First, SBP is a non-profit provider of disaster resilience, training and recovery services for affected companies - and its employees. Based in New Orleans, SBP (formerly known as St. Bernard Project) serves local communities throughout the nation and US territories susceptible to various natural disasters. Moreover, we are proud to say that this organization came to Scrimmage Cares through a client of Scrimmage, with her realization of the terrific alignment and synergies.
By offering the Scrimmage Mobile Learning Platform on a pro bono basis, all users are able to further their education of disaster needs and resources. They are able to easily access training modules, as well as key information from any mobile device.
"Our partnership with Scrimmage has opened the door for SBP to share our resilience trainings with businesses and employees to ensure that they are better prepared for when the next disaster hits. As more and more companies adopt these trainings through Scrimmage, the more resilient we can make communities - and the less people will suffer,” commented Reese May, Chief Strategy and Innovation Officer of SBP.

A second initiative close to the Scrimmage mantra of learning and education comes through the Sammy Rabbit National Dream Big Financial Literacy Initiative.
Through the Sammy Rabbit songs, stories and activities, young children are able to be exposed to life-long saving and money habits at an early age that are meant to stick with them and make dreams come true. As the organization’s mission states, “inspiring big dreams and great money habits.”
Last Fall, the organization released its latest activity book, Sammy’s Big Dream, that spurred a national financial literacy campaign. Through corporate sponsorships and charitable donations, including Scrimmage Cares, it enabled a wide distribution of free books directly available for parents, teachers, community leaders and youth organizers to use as a teaching tool with children 7+ years of age.
“Through the support of Scrimmage Cares and all of our corporate philanthropy partners, an additional 15,000+ children across the US had access to learning about financial competency, money matters and the importance of saving from a critical young age,” notes Sam X. Renick, author, educator and Executive Director. “I look forward to expanding our initiatives with further outreach, additional activities, more books, along with our new 2020 Sammy mission, vision and ask campaign.”

Finally, in support of our team constantly being mobile, we partnered with Sarah’s Circle, a non-profit organization serving women at risk throughout the Chicago metropolitan area, also coinciding where Scrimmage team members and several key clients are based.
Sarah’s Circle is a refuge for women who are homeless, or in need of a safe space. By providing life necessities, the Sarah's Circle community encourages women to empower themselves, rebuilding both emotionally and physically. Sarah's Circle always appreciates in-kind donations, as they are critical to offer on a daily basis.
While on the road, the Scrimmage team repurposes the toiletries and personal care items found in their hotel rooms to donate to Sarah’s Circle (vs. for their own use). They also remember this organization’s work with their own in-kind donations and even reached out to their dentists for donations of dental care packages. In all, hundreds of personal care items have been provided throughout 2019, with more giving initiatives already set for 2020.
