Individualized Learning … in the Cloud
If you look at the consumer world, technology enables personal experiences…constantly. Our habits and selections generate a digital picture of comparable interests, wants and needs delivered in seconds for further engagement. It narrows our options; it does the “heavy-lifting” for us. It is individualized and personalized.
When you look at primary and secondary education, the trend also points to the use of technology for individualized and personalized experiences. This concept is the crux of the rapidly growing AltSchool, for instance, which is fueled by Silicon Valley leaders, including Founders Fund, Mark Zuckerberg, and others with a $100M round of financing. Its technology platform allows teachers to create “learning playlists” for each student. With this model, classes are able to adjust to learners, meet them where they are and push coursework that is personalized for them, for their level of learning.
I pose the question, how does this unique experience carry-over to the enterprise? Is this combination of personalized experience happening in the corporate world like it is in the consumer world, and even more specifically in corporate learning? Is it fluid, as well as offer a responsive design and optimization for any any device, including mobile?
Apparently NOT. A recent Oracle survey, based on responses from 300 C-Level executives located throughout North America, found in their report, “The Era I Enterprise: Ready For Anything,” that employees want individualized experiences (an astounding 70%), but that the majority of companies are still struggling to provide it. Employees want it in their content and content delivery, as well as in their technology and overall experiences. Moreover, the vast majority of respondents (between 70% and 90%, depending on the industry) believed "The Cloud" was the vehicle to deliver these unique experiences.
The Cloud is increasingly a great option for the enterprise. It is easy to use (relative to other options), fast to scale, powerful and flexible for on-demand solutions. It also eliminates the high capital cost of investing in, or maintaining an on-prem systems like a LMS, or other data centers.
I ask again, how quickly will companies move away from their antiquated systems and embrace the change being dictated by technology and this individualization movement?
The Cloud optimizes Mobile Learning & Training, as the students at the AltSchool today will quickly become tomorrow’s workforce. They will expect individualization and personalized training in their careers. Point of fact, learning does not end at school. Continual learning means engagement, staying informed of the latest innovations with an investment in self and employees to be the best individual and the best team player possible.
